Last week, the “Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission” released its highly anticipated MAHA strategy, which provided more details on its original report.
One of the biggest challenges to the report is the question of where the funding and personnel will come from. Everything from educating consumers on healthy food and fluoride levels in water to creating a new Administration for a Healthy America takes staff and resources to make this happen. Additionally, many of these priorities cross different agencies’ jurisdiction. Eventually, HHS will need to prioritize these issues, and it will be telling to see where they put their funding.
For advocates, the next phase is all about timing and positioning. Stakeholders will need to track where the Commission’s recommendations intersect with ongoing debates, whether on nutrition standards, mental health access, or preventive care, and be ready with concrete proposals.
This is an issue set that will keep evolving as the initiatives become more structured. The MAHA strategy lays the groundwork for what’s to come. Now we need to see how much political will is behind it.
