Examining The Lower Energy Costs Act

Earlier in March, House Republicans introduced their hallmark energy legislative package for the 118th Congress – the Lower Energy Costs Act. This legislation was given the party's H.R. 1 designation, signifying that the legislation is their top priority for this Congress. While the legislation in its current form is unlikely to move due to opposition from Senate Democrats and the Biden administration, this is an area to watch for bipartisan cooperation. Discussions have already begun to find a consensus on a bipartisan, bicameral package that would lower energy costs and streamline permitting processes.
