Cyber Report | October 27th, 2023

This week, most of the energy around Capitol Hill has been focused on the election of a new Speaker of the House - Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA). Republicans voted unanimously in favor of Speaker Johnson's nomination, and he was elected by a vote of 220-209. As such, Speaker Johnson has laid out a plan for legislative activity through the end of the 118th Congress, including spending measures related to cybersecurity.

Furthermore, OMB published a draft memorandum on proposed changes to the GSA's FedRAMP program, with an opportunity to submit public comment through October 27th. Separately, CISA released a white paper on the current software identification ecosystem, in alignment with future efforts to develop a software bill of materials. Additionally, the House Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection convened a hearing focused on evaluating federal cybersecurity governance initiatives.

Lastly, looking ahead to next week, the Biden administration is planning to unveil its highly anticipated follow-up executive order on artificial intelligence on Monday.
