Cyber Report: July 28th, 2023

This week, the SEC adopted highly anticipated rules on cyber incident disclosure reporting, which are set to go into effect very soon this year. President Biden also announced the nomination of former NSA Executive Director Harry Coker to serve as the next permanent White House National Cyber Director - a decision which received praise from cyber leaders in Congress. Additionally, GAO published a report assessing and offering recommendations for NIST's cyber education and workforce programs.

Separately, in Congress, it was a busy week for relevant cyber legislation. The House of Representatives passed legislation to strengthen and reform NTIA's Office of Policy Development and Cybersecurity. Separately, on the Senate side, HSGAC cleared legislation that would bolster federal coordination surrounding both artificial intelligence and FISMA.
