While Congress has mainly been focused on finding a solution for FY24 spending this week, there have been several key cyber and AI-related developments this week. First, White House leadership announced that they have reached an agreement with the European Union on a joint roadmap for consumer labeling of Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
Furthermore, the House Financial Services Committee is convening a Bipartisan Working Group on AI, which will focus on examining how AI will impact both the housing and financial industries. Additionally, the House Energy & Commerce Committee convened a hearing on the need for stronger cybersecurity efforts, especially to counter against the continued influence of China in the digital realm.
Lastly, a bipartisan group of policymakers introduced a House version of the Federal Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Act, which directs U.S. federal agencies and contractors to incorporate the NIST AI Risk Management Framework into their AI strategies.
