Sustainability Report | October 5th, 2023
In this week's report, we deep dive into policy action surrounding western water issues - especially the administration's efforts to roll out funding primarily through the WaterSMART program that goes towards state and local governments, Tribes, and NGOs. On Capitol Hill, activity in the House of Representatives is on hold until Republicans elect a new speaker, which could slow some legislation of impact to climate change.
Meanwhile, the White House published a national framework on climate resiliency, while the EPA released a final rule related to PFAS. Lastly, Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA) and Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) introduced bicameral legislation directing FERC to coordinate the construction of an interregional transmission system, which would relieve grid congestion for various energy sources.
