BG3: October 23rd - 27th, 2023

This week, most of the energy around Capitol Hill has been focused on the election of a new Speaker of the House - Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA). Republicans voted unanimously in favor of Speaker Johnson's nomination, and he was elected by a vote of 220-209.

Furthermore, Speaker Johnson has outlined a plan to finalize the House's appropriations bills and pass them through the floor. However, given how far apart the spending allocations are between the House and Senate bills, a funding extension will likely be needed. Lastly, Rep. Dean Philips (D-MN) has filed the appropriate paperwork to run for president and challenge President Joe Biden in the Democratic primary.
