This week, there was a strong focus on the ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestine. President Biden made a brief trip to Israel to show public support for the Israelis and to encourage humanitarian aid to Gaza. Upon his return, the White House submitted a comprehensive supplemental funding request – seeking over $105 billion to provide resources to Israel, Ukraine, the U.S.-Mexico border, domestic defense manufacturing, and humanitarian assistance.
Furthermore, the House passed its second week without an elected Speaker of the House, with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) not getting enough support on three votes and opposition growing on each ballot. It is unclear what Republicans will do as far as a path forward. Lastly, Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) is the 22nd member of Congress to announce her decision to not run for re-election.
