BG Week in Review: June 5th - 9th

This week, the House Freedom Caucus sided with Democrats with a procedural vote to stop Republican legislation on gas stove regulation from moving, due to ongoing resentments surrounding Speaker Kevin McCarthy's handling of the debt ceiling negotiations. This led to the Speaker halting all legislative business and adjourning the House until next week - highlighting the strong impact of a small caucus in a narrow majority.


Furthermore, three new Republican candidates joining the growing presidential primary field for the 2024 election - former NJ Governor Chris Christie, former Vice President Mike Pence, and ND Governor Doug Burgum. Lastly, the House Oversight Committee decided to cancel a vote on holding FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt.
