BG Week in Review: February 26th - March 1st

The focus in Congress this week has largely been on the ongoing debate surrounding FY24 funding. Both the House and Senate passed a bipartisan continuing resolution that extends funding in two tranches - until March 8th for the six measures on which lawmakers have already reached an agreement, and until March 22nd for the remaining six bills that need additional work.

Furthermore, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced that he will step down from his leadership position after the November election, though he has stated that he will remain in the Senate until his term ends in 2027. This has set off a flurry of speculation about who might replace Sen. McConnell in the top leadership position - with many looking to three top candidates: former Republican Whip John Cornyn (R-TX), current Republican Whip John Thune (R-SD), and current Republican Conference Chair John Barrasso (R-WY).
