BG Election Coverage

During the last week of August, Brumidi Group will kick off our weekly 2026 election coverage, providing the latest polling and analysis through the election in early November.  

In the meantime, here are three types of polls to monitor that can help give some early indications of where the election stands (though it’s important to remember, it’s still early).  

Generic Congressional Poll: This poll provides a good understanding of where the general mood is on congressional elections. Of course, the races are not actually generic (they each have their own dynamics that are not directly reflected in a broad poll like this), but knowing where political and voting trends are important and generic polls do that.  

Presidential Favorable / Unfavorable Poll:  While the President is not on the ballot, both sides of the aisle will base their strategy around the President during any midterm election.  The campaigns will watch the President’s favorability very closely because Republican candidates will be closely aligned to the President by their opponents, and Democrats will use the President to highlight their interest in new policy outcomes.  

Party Favorability: Knowing where the two political parties stand can also be informative, since a lot of voters traditionally vote with their own party.  Frustration with a political party (or both political parties) can be reflected in this type of poll, which can help explain issues with voter turnout or even the potential for crossover voting.

As the election nears, watching individual races will be useful (and we will include some key races in our weekly update, but they will change significantly as the election nears, so watching the macro political trends is what can be most useful in the near-term.
